When you list your home for sale, you will likely be able to specify how much notice you’d like for showings.  Some sellers prefer three hours notice, while others need a full day to prepare.  Ultimately, though, it’s not uncommon to get a last-minute request from a serious buyer who is only in town for a short period of time. Here’s how to prep your home with only a moment’s notice:

-

Lights! Turn on the majority of lights in your home to keep it bright and highlight your home’s great features.  Some sellers even like to swap out their usual lightbulbs for higher wattage.  Plus, be sure to open up the blinds and draw back the curtains.

If you only have ten minutes to clean, focus on the kitchen and the bathroom.   Make sure that the sink is free of dishes, and all of the clutter is put away (we won’t judge if you throw it in a big box in the garage!).  Do a quick wipe down of the countertops and the bathroom mirror.

First impressions are everything.  Consider what the buyer will see first, and make sure that it looks as neat and welcoming as possible.  Maybe this means sweeping off your welcome mat out front, spritzing some Windex on your front storm door, or nicely arranging the throw pillows on your couch that buyers will see when they first walk in.
