The township’s history dates back to the mid-eighteenth century. Pottsgrove derived its name from the prominent stone mansion of an early settler, John Potts. In fact, Potts’ Estate became an encampment for George Washington’s troops in the Battle of Brandywine! Pottsgrove Township was officially formed and recognized in 1806, and separated into Upper and Lower Pottsgrove in 1889.

The township is located within Pottsgrove School District. The district also serves Upper Pottsgrove Township and West Pottsgrove Township. The district’s high school proudly hosts a nationally recognized Community Service Program!
