Jenkintown Quick Facts
Jenkintown enjoys a rich history dating back to its settlement in 1697. The borough was named after William Jenkins, a pioneer settler, and became officially incorporated in 1874.
The friendly borough is one of the only in the area to host a “Newcomers Club” intended to help new residents get acquainted. Volunteers coordinate and organize these fun events, and are an excellent way for residents (old and new!) to meet their neighbors.
The borough is governed by a city-manager form of government with a mayor and a 12-member borough council.
Jenkintown School District serves the borough, and is one of the smallest school districts in the region! The district serves just 600 students, and its size allows for a more individualized education and an impressive student-to-teacher ratio (11:1).
