Douglass Township

The bucolic, relaxing town of Douglassville is located in far northern Montgomery County along the Berks County border. The family-friendly community offers big backyards, plenty of open spaces, and relatively affordable land. Douglass Township has one of the smallest population densities in Montgomery County, with just 10,000 residents across 15.4 square miles!

The majority of homes within the municipality are considered a part of Gilbertsville, and as a result, “Gilbertsville” is roughly synonymous with Douglass Township. The mailing address of Boyertown is also used for some homes within the township.

Douglass Township is located just a short driving distance from a number of major employment areas. Boyertown and Pottstown are just a few minutes away, and Reading and Allentown are conveniently located too. Route 73 and Route 100 intersect in Douglass Township.

Douglass Township in Montgomery County (Gilbertsville) is wholly distinct from Douglass Township in Berks County (Douglassville).

While Douglass Township is a quiet, rural area, it also offers plenty of suburban conveniences! Local shopping centers offer a short commute to your weekly errands, and a number of great eateries are located in Gilbertsville (we especially love Doc Watson’s Irish Pub). Plus, the popular Zern’s Farmer’s Market attracts a crowd from people all over!

The West Branch of the Perkiomen Creek also flows through the eastern end of the township. There is no shortage of parks, trails, and hiking opportunities in the scenic area!

Homes in Douglass Township tend to be priced a bit below the Montgomery County average, and land tends to be particularly affordable. Many of the single-family homes in Gilbertsville are priced between $200,000 and $350,000.

Due to urban sprawl, the township has experienced a surge in new construction, and you’re likely to find an abundance of brand new communities. Some of these new communities offer luxury homes featuring over 3,000 square feet for over $375,000.

Looking for something more affordable? You’ll be sure to find a few “diamonds in the rough” in the area for under $150,000. These single-family homes may need a little work, but many offer large backyards and excellent potential. It’s no surprise that investors love Douglass Township!
