Description

Own a piece of history at 37 Crawford Audubon, PA. This three-story, six-bay Second Empire style house was built in two phases. The eastern section was constructed in 1732 and the western section in 1800. In 1780 the former agricultural building was constructed, which is now a studio. As recorded history shows, this was part of the Pennsylvania Land Company owned by William Penn. In 173 the parcel was sold to John Edwards with 267 acres, Joseph Crawford purchased the former Edwards property in 1795 and the property passed down through the family until 1926. Crawford had served in the Philadelphia County Militia during the American Revolution, likely with Edwards, and it was reported that Crawford at 18 years old was one of the men who crossed the Delaware River with George Washington & fought in the Battle of Trenton in 1776. Fast forward to 2019 and now you can be the 11th owner of this small piece of history in Montgomery County! As you enter the property the stunning long porch greets you and begs you to slow down for a moment and enjoy the splendor of the day. Entering the home through one of three doors that abound on the porch, you will realize that this was formerly the back entrance to this massive estate. As you enter from the porch you will notice the grand staircase that wraps itself to the third floor, with intricate woodwork and an elevator that compliments the staircase. Off the main hall of this home you will find your formal living room with its picturesque views of the property. The formal dining room is complemented by a large wood burning fireplace with a detailed mantel. While the original kitchen with its walk in fireplace is now the family room area, you will appreciate the updated kitchen off of your formal dining room with plenty of cabinet and counter space to create your sumptuous meals. We only have just begun! Mosey up the grand center hall staircase to the second floor. Here you will find lots of room for everyone. With 4 bedrooms on this level, each offering their own twist on charm! The two western bedrooms both adorn an adobe architectural fireplace for those cold winter nights back in the 1700's. Still functional, they now offer beautiful charm to these two rooms. On the eastern side of the home you will two additional bedrooms that still the original graceful hardwood plank floors. With ample windows in all the bedrooms, you will see the views from around the area. Now you have one more floor to explore! Let's go and hit the stairs to the third floor! With two more bedrooms with "Peter Pan" windows, you will see all your dreams come true in this stunning home. The other two rooms on this level lead you to an attic which houses your central air system, a movie studio viewing room in the other with stadium seating to watch all your old time classics and new masterpieces. No need to stop reading here, we are not done exploring this 5284 SF home. Off the den you will step down to an area that was used as the owner's tavern room with it's own ext to the patio that let's you drive away and think of simpler ties while you sip n your beverage. If that wasn't enough there is an exterior outbuilding that has been used as a recording studio. With a two-bay garage under the studio with its own heat and electric the possibilities are endless. It's time to make your mark on this part of history!
