A Few Suggestions When Shopping For a Home |
The home-buying process is a lot like flea market shopping: The selection is vast, no two objects are identical, and everything is negotiable. With that said, there are a few differences that a homebuyer should keep in mind. |

The price is large. Be Represented by a Professional. |
If you overpay for an item at a flea market, the consequences are minimal. Overpaying for real estate can have significant and long lasting consequences. A Real Estate professional will counsel you on the value of any property that interests you and explain the factors that affect that value. |

A Professional Buyer’s Agent costs you nothing. |
When a home is listed for sale in the Multiple Listing Service, the agent for the seller posts a Buyer Agent fee for any agent that represents the buyer of that home. As a result, an independent professional can represent you at no cost to you. |

Let Your Buyer Agent Protect You. |
Always have your Buyer Agent with you when you tour a home. If you go to an open house or visit a new-construction sample without your Buyer Agent, or even call the phone number on the yard sign, the seller’s representative will consider you to be their new client, and expect to represent both you and the seller at the same time. At that point, to be represented independently you will need to hire an attorney. |

Keep Your Options Open. |
What should you do if you become dissatisfied with your Buyer Agent? Just select another, unless you have signed a Buyers Agency Agreement that locks you to a specific agent for a specified time span. Never sign such a document. |
