To say that Ann Marie Hughes is busy just might be an understatement! With a full-time teaching job, successful career in real estate, and two little ones, you can bet that Ann Marie’s days are packed full from sunrise to sunset. Here, she shares what a typical day looks like for her, and how she makes it all work (hint: it involves a loving, supportive husband and waking up verrrry early!)
The alarm goes off at 4:30 but I find it impossible to get out of bed before 4:45. I get ready (you know, all the typical girl stuff that goes on in the morning), and get the kids up and out of the door around 6:15. My husband, Sean, is usually up and out of the house already. I drop off my son at my neighbor’s house where they feed him breakfast and put him on the schoolbus. My daughter gets dropped off at her grandmother’s house.
I am an 8th grade English teacher and it takes me about an hour to get to school (I live in Upper Bucks County and I teach in Lower Bucks). A quick stop at Dunkin Donuts and I begin to feel like an actual human being around 7:30 when I get to work!
My students arrive in my classroom at 8:00 and there is no looking back! I teach five classes but in between, I am grading, lesson planning, emailing parents, and preparing for the next day. The bell rings at 2:45 but my day is far from over! Meetings with parents and faculty members usually end the school day for me.
At 3:20, I am out the door and on to showings! Ah! Adult time! Interacting with fourteen year olds can be draining! Although I have had a long day at this point, I find the time I spend with my clients too fun to be “work”. Helping someone find their next home is so rewarding and rejuvenating.
After a showing, I get myself home for family time- dinner, homework, and a glass of wine! My amazing hubby usually starts dinner for us. I am training for the Blue Cross Broad Street 10 mile run in May, so I usually have a few miles to run on the treadmill so I can keep to my schedule. Sometimes we have to go to dance class or CCD, where I am a volunteer. Bed time for the kids is 8:00… bed time for the parents is 8:15! Don’t judge us, we wake up early!
Juggling two jobs and two kids isn’t always easy, but I have a TON of help! I am so thankful that I have an opportunity to teach and pursue my real estate goals. Everyhome is a great place to work as a second career. There aren’t any required hours in the office and the paperwork can all be done from home. This summer, I am looking forward to working even more with Everyhome, spending time with my kids, and of course, getting more sleep!
