Keeping Your Kids Safe This Halloween Weekend

Safety Tips This Halloween

Halloween is a great time to teach your kids a few safety tips while enjoying the festivities of the season! Here are a few recommendations for a great, safe, healthy weekend:

1. Examine all halloween candy and treats to ensure there aren’t any choking hazards and that they haven’t been tampered with. It’s also a good idea to avoid homemade treats from strangers. And of course, children should be accompanied by an adult when trick-or-treating!
2. Reflective tape is a great idea for walking around on dark roads with traffic. Just fasten a bit to the back of your and your child’s costume. Flashlights are helpful, too!
3. Consider going light on the costume makeup with children! Many kids (more so than adults) will experience allergic reactions. If possible, avoid masks on young children as it can make it difficult to breathe.
4. If you’re staying home to pass out treats for halloween, ensure that your walkway is well-lit and there are no open flames. It might be a nice idea to pass out healthier snacks, too, such as carrot sticks or pretzels, and be sure to have a few quarters on hand if kids come by trick-or-treating for Unicef!
