As-Is Homes: Bargain or Bust?

As-Is Homes

You’ve been perusing Everyhome.com every day for months, and you keep seeing these great homes with this little saying in the description: “This home is being sold As-Is” in the home description. Woah. Hold on a second. What does that even MEAN?
as-is
“As-Is” implies that the seller isn’t able or willing to make any repairs whatsoever to the home (as opposed to other homes, in which sellers are often willing to reach an agreement with a buyer about defects). “As is” usually benefits the seller and relieves them from the headache of doing any work to the home. Many “As-is” properties are bank-owned, or sometimes the sellers are elderly and unable to do the work, or perhaps they’ve moved to another state and can’t deal with the hassle.
Whatever the reason that a home is “As Is”, it doesn’t have to be as risky as it sounds. Your EveryHome agent will guide you through the process of getting a home inspection in order to protect both your investment and your family. If the home inspection reveals seriously major issues, you have every right to walk away with your deposit money intact (talk with your agent about your timeframe, here).
That being said, it’s important to take extra care with navigating through home inspections and dealing with repairs immediately. If not, it could be costly in the long run. Ultimately, though, “As-Is” properties can provide a really great deal in this market. Benefit from the guidance of an experienced EveryHome agent if you see an “As-Is” home on the market today!
