Springfield Township Quick Facts
Springfield’s rich history dates back to 1681, when William Penn gifted the tract of land to his first wife. The town was originally referred to as “Gulielma Maria Springett Penn’s Mannor of Springfield” and then was became known simply as Springfield Township in 1718.

The township is home to a number of sites on the National Register of Historic Places, including The Black Horse Inn, Carson College for Orphan Girls, Springfield Mill, and Yeakle and Miller Houses.

The township includes the villages of Wyndmoor, Erdenheim, Flourtown and Oreland. Parts of the towns of Lafayette Hill, Glenside and Miquon are also located within Springfield Township.
What To Do In Springfield Township
Springfield is conveniently located along the Philadelphia border, and just five minutes from Chestnut Hill. The popular Philadelphia neighborhood offers some of the finest eateries and shops in the region, as well as beautiful parks, trails and open spaces.


Springfield Township is home to Flourtown Country Club, North Hills Country Club, and Sandy Run Country Club. The township is also located alongside the gorgeous Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania.
