Welcome to Newtown Township
Nestled in northern Delaware County, Newtown Township is an affluent area with luxury homes, beautiful scenery, and convenience to Philadelphia’s prestigious Main Line. Typically referred to as “Newtown Square”, the township is largely residential but also features eateries, shops, and plenty of entertainment options. Plus, a number of private country clubs and recreational opportunities are located within Newtown Square, including Aronimink Golf Club and Overbrook Golf Club.
Newtown Township Quick Facts
The township traces its history and establishment back to 1681, when it was settled by Welshmen and Quakers. Newtown Township was officially incorporated in 1684.

Newtown Square was originally part of Chester County, but was incorporated into Delaware County in 1789. Including its history in Chester County, Newtown Township is the oldest municipality in all of Delaware County.

Today, the Newtown Square Historical Society works actively to document and preserve the township’s rich history.

The township is served by Marple Newtown School District. Additionally, there are an abundant of private school options located nearby, including the Baldwin School, Agnes Irwin School, and Malvern Prep.
What To Do In Newtown Township
While Newtown is surrounded by scenic, rolling hills and is largely residential in nature, there are still plenty of opportunities to dine, shop, and play! Some of our favorite local restaurants include Teca and Ristorante La Locanda, and residents love the beautiful Aronimink Golf and Country Club.

The township also operates a public library, with an abundance of popular events for kids and adults alike. The Newtown Public Library offers toddler story time, book clubs, dance activities for kids, and puppet shows!
Newtown Township Real Estate
Homes in Newtown Township tend to be priced above the Delaware County average. The majority of homes in Newtown Township are single-family homes above $700,000 although a variety of home styles and prices are available. Most of these stately single-family homes are located on sizeable lots (nearly an acre or more) and within private, gated communities. Other single-family homes are tucked away on quiet, winding back roads.

Additionally, Newtown Square is a popular spot for builders and developers, and new construction is abundant. You can expect to see more and more luxury townhomes and gated communities with elegant single homes!

For something a bit more affordable, be sure to check out the more modest townhomes and condominiums. It’s also not uncommon to find a stately single-family home in need of a little TLC that is far under market value!
