Newtown Township Quick Facts
Newtown enjoys a rich history dating back to 1683 when William Penn purchased a tract of land from the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. Penn referred to the land as “my new township” which evolved into its present day name.

The township’s convenient location within Bucks County led to it serving as the County Seat from 1726 until 1813. At that time, the County Seat moved to Doylestown.

The township is served by Council Rock School District, which was recognized by Newsweek as being among the best high schools in the region.
Additionally, there are a number of nearby private schools.

Newtown Township is distinct from the adjacent Newtown Borough, and not to be confused with Newtown Township in Delaware County (“Newtown Square”).
