Ambler Borough

Nestled in central Montgomery County, Ambler Borough is a bustling, walkable town with a rich history and great restaurants, shops, and entertainment! Ambler is also a relatively affordable place to live, and located within the award-winning Wissahickon School District.

The town was named after the heroic actions of a local woman, Mary Ambler, during the Great Trainwreck of 1856. After two trains fatally collided near the borough, Mary Ambler organized and orchestrated rescue and relief efforts for the surviving victims. Despite the tragic loss of 59 people that day, it is believed that Mary Ambler’s efforts saved many more lives.

No car? No problem! This walkable town offers easy access to Center City through the Ambler Station of the Regional Rail. Bus routes are also available, and many residents prefer to bike around town.

There is no shortage of things to do in this town! Take a stroll down the pedestrian-friendly Butler Ave (“Main Street”) and stop by the popular Ambler Farmer’s Market (open Saturdays from May to October) and pop in to one of Ambler’s many coffee houses for a morning latte. Later in the day, you’ll love From The Boot or Trax Restaurant & Café for lunch, and enjoy a romantic dinner at Dettera Wine Bar or Bridget’s Steakhouse. In the mood for some shopping? Stop by the trendy Free Shop or one of Ambler’s many charming boutiques!

Ambler is renowned for the arts. Not only is the borough home to the non-profit Ambler Theatre, the town is also home to Act II Playhouse and Mermaid Art Studios. The town hosts the Ambler Arts & Music Fest each spring.

Homes for sale in Ambler Borough tend to be priced a bit below the Montgomery County average, although they don’t go up for sale too often! The majority of homes in the township are priced under $300,000, and there is a blend of single-family, twin, and townhomes for sale. While there are an abundance of “diamonds in the rough,” there are also move-in ready options available, including some beautiful and unique homes in the center of Ambler. Most homes in the Borough are older, although there are a few newer options available including the recently-built Station Square at Ambler.
